Blackhawks see mixed results against Lynx and Eagles

Home game coming up this weekend

The Seeley-Swan basketball teams faced off against one of their most anticipated opponents, the Lincoln Lynx. After that they played the Valley Christian Eagles. Both games proved challenging for the Blackhawks.

On Jan. 24, the Blackhawks traveled to Lincoln. The Lynx got the home-court advantage - their court is smaller than the Blackhawks' court.

To add to the adjustment, both the Blackhawks and Lady Blackhawks were missing starters and players due to travel and injury. These games would be hard, but the Blackhawks were up for the challenge.

The Blackhawks played the Lynx first, and they met their match. After trying everything, the Blackhawks were unable to secure the win. The boys lost, 33-59.

The top scorers of the night were Derrick Brovold and Blake Irwin, both juniors. Brovold scored 13 points, and Irwin scored nine.

Following that game, the Lady Blackhawks played the Lady Lynx. The Lady Blackhawks worked hard, and even through sickness, they pushed through and beat the Lady Lynx. The Lady Blackhawks won, 41-34.

The top scorers of the night were Aubrey Matthew, a senior, and Ryan Pitman, a sophomore. Matthew scored 18 points, and Pitman scored eight.

On Jan. 25, the Valley Christian Eagles traveled from Missoula to Seeley to play the Blackhawks.

Similar to the previous night, the Lady Blackhawks dominated and took another win for the weekend, 51-33.

The top scorers of the night were Kilty Hanson, a junior, and Matthew. Hanson scored 14 points, and Matthew scored 10.

The following game was the Blackhawks versus the Eagles and this match was also highly anticipated. The Blackhawks were dedicated and determined and secured the victory, 63-58.

Top scorers of the night were again Brovold and Irwin. Brovold scored 21 points, and Irwin scored 12.

Next week the Blackhawks travel to Drummond on Tuesday, Jan. 28 to play the Drummond Trojans, another long-time rival. The Blackhawks then play at home on Friday, Jan. 31 against the Superior Bobcats.
