Comebacks and close calls are frequent during the basketball season, especially for the Blackhawks.
At home, the Blackhawks played the Victor Pirates on Jan. 17. The next day the team traveled to Philipsburg and played one of their rivals, the Granite Prospectors.
The Blackhawks' game against the Pirates was a blow out. The boys' team ended the half being up 58-6. The Blackhawks happily took home the win, the final score 90-18.
Derrick Brovold and Noah Stone, both juniors, were top scorers of the night. Brovold with 24 points, and Stone with 13.
The Lady Blackhawks played the Lady Pirates next, and similar to the boys' game the girls dominated. The Lady Blackhawks ended the half being up 28-12. The Lady Blackhawks then went on to score another 44 points in the second half, bringing the final score to 72-33.
Lillian Boyd, a junior, and Amaiya Dalrymple, a senior, were top scorers of the night, Boyd with 16 points and Dalrymple with 10.
The following day, the team traveled to Philipsburg where the Blackhawks played first.
The Blackhawks blew the Prospectors away, ending the half at 41-23. The game ended with the Blackhawks winning, 82-58.
Blake Irwin and Noah Stone, both juniors, were top scorers of the night. Irwin with 27 points and Stone with 13.
The Lady Blackhawks played a tough game against the Lady Prospectors, ending at half being down 27-29. Ultimately, the Lady Blackhawks lost their first conference game, 44-47. The girls' team will have seven more changes to play this season.
Lillian Boyd, a junior, and Aubrey Matthew, a senior, were top scorers of the night, Boyd with 10 points and Matthew with eight.
Next week the Blackhawks will travel to play the Lincoln Lynxes on Jan. 24. They will then play the Valley Christian Eagles at home on Jan. 25.
