YAMAFEST
The mountains around Seeley Lake will be buzzing with caravans of snowmobiles as the fifth annual YAMAFEST celebration gets underway this weekend. Though we'd like more snow, we still have more than most, and trails above the valley floor are in very good condition and being groomed constantly. This picture was taken on Rice Ridge above Seeley Lake last Sunday when around 30 snowmobilers took part in a poker run and cookout. The trail was well groomed.

Winterfest in Seeley Lake
Pat Mitchell, president of the Seeley Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, has announced plans for the Annual Seeley Lake Winterfest starting with a torch parade Friday, Jan. 21 and winding up on Sunday Jan. 30 with a concert.
Although normal deep snows are late coming this year, Old Man Winter has covered the ground with white and can be counted on for more.
The festival features family oriented activities throughout the community involving snowmobiling, Nordic skiing, snow sculpting, performing arts and more.
After the kickoff parade, discarded Christmas trees provide a bonfire for informal socializing.
On Saturday morning the sled dogs harnessed up for the 200-mile Seeley Lake Sled Dog Race.
Everyone is invited to the evening Dessert Fest and auction for a good time. And snowmobilers make a poker run on Sunday or have lunch at the cook sled atop a mountain.
Thursday evening Historian Dave Walter talks about "WWII Conscientious Objectors of Paxon." The final weekend features cross-country ski and snowmobile Snocross races.
Winterfest ends on Sunday with poetry reading and artwork by Peggy Meinholtz, and a rousing Drum Brothers Concert.
Snow sculptures can be viewed throughout town for the whole week. Some very impressive works of art have lined roads in years past. Contest entrants are in several categories ranging from professional to the basic snowman.
Winterfest has occurred in Seeley lake for over 20 years. It first started with the local snowmobile club inviting other club families to enjoy a long weekend of trail riding and cookouts. They called it the "Snomobilezvous," reminiscent of days when the trappers gathered for their annual rendezvous.
