After winter break some teams experience a readjustment period, needing to get back into the mindset to win games after the holiday season.
But for the Seeley-Swan Blackhawks, they were in it to win it and won all four games at both the junior varsity and varsity levels against the Superior Bobcats on Friday, Jan. 3.
The night started with the junior varsity games - the Lady Blackhawks played a half game and the Blackhawks played a full game, and both teams won their games.
Afterwards, the varsity Lady Blackhawks played a tough game. At half, the Lady Blackhawks were up 26-16, but the Bobcats slowly started making a comeback during the second half of the game. Unfortunately for the Bobcats, the Lady Blackhawks' defense was ready and the Blackhawks won 44-40.
Lillian Boyd, a junior, Aubrey Matthew and Rilyn Richardson, both seniors, were top scorers against the Bobcats. Boyd with 16 points, Matthew with 11 and Richardson with 10.
Following that victory, the Blackhawks also endured a back and forth game - they led at half 36-30. The Blackhawks were able to keep the Bobcats down by around 10 points consistently with the end score being 67-57.
Blake Irwin and Derrick Brovold, both juniors, were top scorers of the night. Irwin with 21 points, 15 of those being three-pointers, and Brovold with 19.
"We have improved our ball movements, which led us to have more open looks and be able to score more points," Irwin said. "My hope is to make it to divisionals and farther."
The Blackhawks will play St. Regis at home on Jan. 10 and will travel to play Hot Springs on Jan. 11.
