It was a Saturday morning in late October and Seeley Lake Senior Center volunteers were gathered for the hunters' breakfast.
Many of the volunteers had been there since the breakfast started at 5 a.m., including senior center board member Michelle Wretling. Wretling was talking about the more familiar services the center offers, like weekday lunches and the Meals on Wheels Program, but she brought up something else, a program called Peggy's Pals.
The program was created by Michael Richards, senior center board member, to help with small household tasks.
"It's a program I developed here for just small, little projects," Richards said. "No big repairs so as not to interfere with businesses."
Chores can include removing a bees nest, getting Christmas lights down from the attic and hanging up Christmas lights. One of the chores already completed was helping someone get their irrigation hose out.
People interested can sign up at the senior center. There is a box to put names, the project desired and a phone number.
Tasks will be completed by senior center volunteers. People interested in volunteering can help in a variety of ways, including through the Peggy's Pals program.
The senior center is currently looking for a Meals on Wheels Driver who can work a 30-mile route. Drivers get a free lunch on the days they drive.
"The people who've done it in the past say it's good outreach to the community," Wretling said.
Another way to help is through donations and by participating in fundraising events. Chocolate bars are available for purchase at the senior center for $2 each, and $1 of the profit goes to the senior center.
The senior center is also offering a raffle for a five-night stay in Phoenix, Arizona at the Canyon Villas Marriott Vacation Club Resort in a two bedroom villa. The stay is from Feb. 10-15 in 2025. Raffle tickets can be purchased at the senior center for $20 until Dec. 20.
People interested in supporting the senior center can also become sponsors. There are three tiers: a bronze sponsorship for $100-$249, a silver sponsorship for $250-$499 and a gold sponsorship for more than $499. They also accept livestock donations. Contributions are tax deductible. Donors are recognized on the senior center website unless they request otherwise.
People interested in volunteering with the senior center can call (406) 677-2008. More information about volunteering can be found at the senior center website, https://seeleyseniorcenter.org/join-us/volunteer/.
The Seeley Lake Senior Center serves lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Lunch costs $9 for people over 50 and $12 for people under the age of 50. They also deliver hot meals through the Meals on Wheels Program and host a variety of games and activities.
