Former Seeley Lake resident declares candidacy against Daines

On Nov. 8, 2024, former Montana State House Representative and longtime publisher and editor Reilly Neill (D) officially filed with the Federal Election Commission to unseat Senator Steve Daines.

“We need a Senator who cares about our access to healthcare, our agricultural economy, our Tribal neighbors, about our teachers and schools. We need someone who cares about the ongoing housing crisis in Montana as much as upholding the Constitution of the United States,” Neill said in a recent public announcement.

“When I’m in the U.S. Senate, there will be no fist-bumping over undermining our veterans. I will not spend the Fourth of July in Russia and then lie about it.”

Neill recently ran a write-in campaign as a Democrat for the Second Congressional District in Montana, which focused on elevating down-ballot races and motivating voters to get to the polls.

She said her grassroots campaign helped elevate Democratic issues beyond the Congressional race.

“What we accomplished on the ground in Eastern Montana during my write-in campaign for Congress over the past months cannot be denied. Together, we motivated voters to engage in democracy and we helped pass CI-128, the most important legislation for women’s healthcare in our lifetimes.”

Neill added that engaging rural voters and candidates who often feel abandoned by their parties will be a priority in her two-year campaign.

“Now is the time for all Montanans to talk to each other and listen, even if we may not like what we hear. We have to look at common ground like CI-128. I was among the 336,451 Montanans who voted for this initiative to deliver a solid message that we believe our government needs to work for us, not tell us what to do.”

Neill lived in Seeley Lake in the early 2000s when she worked as Sous Chef at the Double Arrow Resort. She and her husband Brad Snow now live near Livingston in Park County where they’ve invested in their community for over 20 years. They continue to raise their family through the academic and sports programs of Montana’s public schools and universities.
