Gun range combined with multiple-use trailhead facility now ready for site plans
At the November meeting of the Wilderness Sportsman's Club, the board of directors agreed to contact an architectural firm to draw up site plans for a shooting range and multiple-use facility at Seeley Lake.
The WSC, in partnership with the Forest Service, is firming up plans for a new snowmobile/cross-country skiing trailhead in conjunction with a long awaited gun range.
Plans call for a 50-vehicle parking area to be constructed one mile north of the junctions of Cottonwood Lakes and West Morrell Road.
The parking area would serve as a trailhead for the existing West Morrell snowmobile trails and an expanded cross-country ski trail system. The trailhead is to include restroom facilities as well as signs locating the area trails and listing regulations.
To the east of the parking area will be a shooting range to include a 50 x 60 yard handgun/biathlon area, a 250 yard rifle range, two trap houses and an archery area.
At present, an architect will be selected to draft site plans with construction tentatively set to begin next summer.

A life's dream fulfilled
Ever since he was a young boy able to hunt, Rowdy Ogden has dreamed of getting a mountain goat. Every year, he entered the lottery, hoping for a chance to hunt this animal.
This year, Rowdy was one of two people drawn for the Scapegoat Wilderness near Lincoln.
As any hunter knows, getting a chance to hunt an animal is no guarantee of success. For Rowdy, however, success was in his sights.
Rowdy got this beautiful specimen of a mountain goat (nine and a half inches) on Oct. 13. A dream finally came true. Congratulations, Rowdy!
