2 Valleys Stage presents Atlanta's Jazz Legacy Project featuring "John Coltrane - The Beauty of Struggle"

Alpine Artisans’ 2 Valleys Stage is honored to present a sophisticated jazz band out of Atlanta, Georgia, the Jazz Legacy Project, at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 10, at the Seeley-Swan High School. Following the concert, Jazz Legacy Project will spend two days in our four local schools, providing workshops and in-school concerts.

The Jazz Legacy Project was created in 2015 after an epiphany Justin Varnes had while teaching Jazz History at George State University. The JLP has an ongoing residency at the Velvet Note jazz club in Atlanta, where they have been selling out their performances for six years and counting. Ditching a traditional text book in favor of playing records and telling stories about the artists to college kids who knew little or nothing about jazz proved to be a big success. It turned out that performing the artist’s music and telling their stories in between proved to be an even bigger success. Coltrane’s transformation from his traumatic childhood, late blooming as a musician and in spite of an alcohol addiction, into the creator of some of the most beautiful and indelibly powerful music is one of the most inspirational stories in American culture.

This performance features passionate jazz performances combined with socially-conscious and relevant narration that helps the listener understand how Coltrane’s music works, his impact on modern music and his impact on American culture. This show features a multimedia experience of live music, narration, images and video footage.

Tickets are available at the door. Adults $18, seniors $15 and students are admitted free.
