On Saturday, Oct. 26, the senior center hosted a hunters' breakfast to mark the start of hunting season. The senior center has been hosting this breakfast for about 15 years. Last year, they weren't able to host because there weren't enough volunteers for the event.
That wasn't a problem this year. Senior center volunteers were supported by the Lions Club, with additional support from the Leos. The event was sponsored by Blackfoot Communications. Members of the Lions Club helped sell raffle tickets and serve food. Leos and other student volunteers cleared plates and tables. Pancakes, eggs and sausage were served with hot coffee for $10.
Regan Jones was one of the Leos volunteering at the hunters' breakfast. "It's nice to be involved with the community, especially meeting new people and getting to help out," Jones said.
Michelle Wreling was another volunteer at the breakfast. She is a new member of the senior center board and said outside of the fundraising, "The breakfast engages the community in visiting the senior center."
Devin Gatewood was one of the hunters who attended the breakfast. It was his first time attending and he said it was, "good to see some of the community beforehand."
While the breakfast is a valuable event for people in the community, it's also an important fundraiser for the senior center. Half of the money raised goes to the senior center. There was a silent auction as part of the breakfast and fundraising efforts with all proceeds going to the senior center. People could write down bids for items that were donated by members of the community.
The other half of the money went to the winner of the 50/50 auction. There were also raffle tickets being sold for a five-night stay at a resort in Arizona.
Seeley Lake Deputy Mike Sunderland was decided as the winner of the 50/50 auction on Saturday. The winner of the resort drawing won't be decided until Dec. 20. Anyone interested in entering that drawing can buy raffle tickets at the senior center.
