Blackhawks win first round of playoffs

The Seeley-Swan Blackhawks defeated the Twin Bridges Falcons in the first round of the Class C football playoffs. The Blackhawks, the 7C regular season champions, won a hard fought 30-20 victory over the 6C third place finishers.

The Blackhawks jumped to an early lead when Scott Olson found a seam in the Falcon line for a one-yard touchdown run.

Barry DeLeo, the Blackhawk's "Man of Steel" rushed for touchdowns of 40, 8, 11 and 35 yards. DeLeo's accumulative damage to the Falcons was 244 yards. In the last three Blackhawk games, DeLeo has rushed for a spectacular 750 yards and 10 TDs. DeLeo said of his accomplishments, "It's nice, but I couldn't have done it without my teammates."

The Blackhawk defense proved as impenetrable as a stone wall in holding the Falcons to six first-half points. The stalwart on defense for the Blackhawks was Christian Jette, who intercepted two Falcon passes. DeLeo and Jason Marshall led the defense with 10 and seven tackles, respectively.

Travis Davis ran for two touchdowns for the Falcons and Davis rumbled in for another.

The Blackwaks will travel to Absarokee on Saturday where they will meet the Huskies at 1:30 p.m.

Lady Blackhawks final home game

Saturday night's game versus Florence was the Lady Blackhawks final home game of the season. And to make sure the crowd had something to cheer about, they won three to one, 25-16, 25-15, 19-25 and 25-18.

This wasn't just the last home game of the season, however. For some of these players, it was their last home game, period.

The Lady Blackhawks volleyball team is a senior team. To mark the occasion, these fine, graduating athletes were honored in front of Saturday's home team crowd with the traditional senior night student-parent introductions.

Tears shed? Not that we could tell. Certainly some proud parents, though.

In keeping with their season record, the team had a strong offensive and defensive game. Sarah Madinger has 12 of the team's 43 digs and she punctuated her offensive with three of the team's eight aces.

Yet again, Ashley Pena had half of the team's 32 assists. Tatum Hoehn had three blocks and Nicole Bostwick aggressively took charge with 13 of the team's 36 kills.

Great end to the regular season, at-home play, ladies.
