Seeley Lake Fire District adds three firefighters, one paramedic

The Seeley Lake Rural Fire District added three new firefighters and a new paramedic to its team. Now, the department has 28 volunteer firefighters on the roster, four paramedics and one advanced emergency medical technician.

Jon Espenscheid, Seppa Francis and Brandon Johnson were acknowledged at a badge pinning ceremony during the September fire department board meeting. These three completed their task books, which include a variety of safety trainings like ambulance driving and entry level firefighting.

Steve Larmour, full-time fire district employee, was promoted to a paramedic position after completing just over a year of training last month.

"Now we've got a good volunteer response and everybody's help is very much appreciated," Fire Chief Dave Lane said.

Two days after the board meeting, the fire department hosted a pancake breakfast for Seeley Lake pre-kindergarteners on Sept. 19.

Lane said firefighters talked to the students about fire safety and smoke detectors, gave a tour of the firehouse and demonstrated what a firefighter looked like in his or her protective gear so students would know they didn't need to be afraid if a firefighter had to come to their house.

"It was just a good time for everybody and, of course, they loved their pancakes," Lane said.
