Clearwater Stop N' Go opens new shop

T-shirts emblazoned with the famous Clearwater cow hang on racks in the new Cow Store n' More that's taken up residence in the old bar behind the convenience store at Clearwater Junction. Speciality coffees, soft serve and Big Dipper ice cream and Montana made gifts and books fill the refreshed space.

A soft opening happened on Aug. 23 and the grand opening is planned for Labor Day.

"We had a branding party for local ranchers to bring in their brands and brand the new bar counter for the coffee bar," Roxanne Ross, owner of the Cow Store n' More, said.

Ross got the idea for a gift shop after covid-19 and business at the bar declined and bartenders weren't available. She was still paying full insurance and the bar wasn't profitable.

"I've always liked the St. Regis Travel Center," Ross said. "This was modeled after that."

Ross began working at the convenience store in 2017 and bought the business two years later.

"In 2016 huckleberry ice cream stopped being served in the convenience store," Ross said. "People coming into the convenience store kept asking for it, and now we have it again."

In addition to huckleberry ice cream, Cow Store n' More hopes to serve huckleberry soda as well as root beer and kombucha on tap when they find a supplier. The gift shop makes sandwiches that are sold in the convenience store and hopes to expand into a sandwich option at the coffee bar with fresh sandwich toppings like lettuce and tomato.

The hours for the gift shop will be the same as the gas station, 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. in the summer. Hours may change in the winter.
