Salmon Lake construction nearing end, wrap up now expected mid-November

Drivers may have encountered some construction relief around Salmon Lake over the past week or so.

The Salmon Lake Highway Reconstruction project isn’t completely finished, but Kiewit, the construction company partnering with the Montana Department of Transportation for the project, is getting close to its ending point.

Lisa Gray, communications associate with engineering firm HDR, said work is expected to wrap up by mid-November, weather permitting. Final striping, seeding and fertilizing through the construction area is still underway. Additional work on Woodworth Road is needed including guardrail installation, a retaining wall extension and applying retaining wall sealant.

Gray said limited single-lane closures will be in place as block walls are sealed.

MDT has worked on about four miles along the Salmon Lake corridor over the course of the two-year project. Gray said the total value of the project is $44,170,022, of which $38,244,139 came from federal aid. The remainder — about $5.9 million — comes from state revenue.

Gray said there are no anticipated federal aid projects scheduled in the Seeley Lake area next summer.
