Montana Shakespeare in the Parks to perform The Winter's Tale in Seeley Lake

Montana’s Shakespeare in the Parks (MSIP) will perform in Seeley Lake on Monday, Aug. 26 at 6 pm as part of their 52nd summer tour across five states, bringing free performances to 65 communities in the Rocky Mountain West. It has become a tradition for MSIP to set up their portable stage and perform on the grounds at Double Arrow Lodge as the kickoff event to 2 Valleys Stage;s annual season of performances.

“Seeley Lake is one of our favorite venues to perform”, said Riley O’Toole, the tour manager. “Double Arrow offers an incomparable view and hospitality to match.”

This year the troupe will be performing Shakespeare’s The Winter’s Tale. Sponsored by Alpine Artisans’ 2 Valleys Stage and funded by the Seeley Lake Community Foundation, the performance draws a large crowd.

“The play is one of Shakespeare’s last, and as such is blessed with a writer who really understood how to manipulate the form to achieve new heights of storytelling,” shared Evan Breneman, director of The Winter’s Tale.

The play spans 16 years during which a jealous king accuses his wife of infidelity and exiles his newborn daughter to Bohemia. There she is raised by shepherds, and, ultimately, falls in love with the Bohemian king’s son. Audiences are sure to relish this story of love, loss and forgiveness.

Double Arrow provides drinks, popcorn and sandwiches for sale. Bring a lawn chair or blanket and your whole family. 2 Valleys Stage season tickets will be available for purchase.
