Worldwide cyclist pedals through Ovando

Yoann Destremau pulled into Ovando after cycling in the rain for hours. Soaked and exhausted he visited the Blackfoot Angler and found out about dry overnight lodging for bikers around Ovando.

The morning of July 30 he was happy to have a cup of coffee in his hand and blue skies overhead for a chat outside the Stray Bullet. Currently Destremau is on his third international bike tour. He left Victoria B.C. on July 8 and plans to arrive in Patagonia in two years. He carries everything he owns on his bike. With a grimace he added up that it is close to 100 pounds of gear, including the bike.

Previously he has cycled through 41 countries. In 2019 he went from Australia to France through Asia and the Middle East. The second trip in 2022 he traveled from Buenos Aires north through the Amazon and to the west coast of the Americas to the Canadian border at Vancouver British Columbia.

In his worldwide travels he has been attacked and injured in Brazil, had both tires punctured by cactus in Mexico, enjoyed hospitality in many countries and beautiful scenery and peaceful, secluded camping spots. His motive is to learn about cultures and places in the world.

In between trips he is a bicycle mechanic at home in Leon, France.

When asked if his family worries about him, Destremau said, "They do, but they know I am in my best place."
