Seeley Lake, Mont., July 18, 2024 —The Seeley Lake Ranger District is pleased to announce that Seeley Lake Campground’s water system is repaired, and the campground and day use area opened July 19 at 8 a.m. Campsites are currently open for reservations on http://www.recreation.gov.
Opening of the campground was delayed for the partial replacement of the waterline. However, during construction it was discovered that the remaining part of the water system also needed to be replaced.
The Forest Service was able to modify the contract to have the additional work completed, delaying the previously anticipated opening date by only a few weeks.
The water system improvements are part of a larger investment into the Seeley Lake Recreation Areas and Day Use Sites made possible by the National Parks and Public Land Legacy Restoration Fund established by the Great American Outdoors Act (GAOA) to address the Forest Service’s deferred maintenance backlog while improving critical infrastructure essential to use and enjoy national forests.
The project was approved in 2021 for $750,000 and also includes reconstruction of the boat launch and day use parking at the Seeley Lake Campground. The project is anticipated to be complete by September 2025.

Earlier this year, the Forest announced that all campsites at the Seeley Lake Campground would be reservable on http://www.recreation.gov.
“Having our sites on the reservation site allows visitors to plan their trips ahead of time and ensure they have a spot that fits their needs,” said Quinn Carver, district ranger for the Seeley Lake Ranger District.
If you visit the campground and find an unoccupied site that does not have an incoming reservation, it may be reserved with a credit card by electronically scanning a QR code using the Recreation.gov mobile app (Scan & Pay) at the campsite. Visitors will need to download the free recreation.gov mobile app to their device. This is best done prior to arrival. Please visit http://www.recreation.gov to learn more.
Modernizing our recreation reservation services is part of our continued commitment to serving the public and providing high-quality recreation experiences. The Forest is working towards adding additional sites to the reservation system and the Scan & Pay option at other campgrounds across the Forest in the future.
