Arts & crafts show draws large crowds

The Seeley Lake Folk Arts and Crafts Show and Sale held at the community hall last Saturday and Sunday drew probably over 1,000 people. Five hundred and sixty-seven people coming through the front doors signed the guest book, but many signed one line for the whole family, or failed to sign at all, so a totally accurate count is not possible.

Total sales reported by the committee were $3,753 and this figure does not include copies of "Cabin Fever" sold or the food items.

A total of 40 adults and 15 children exhibited their art and/or crafts in the two-day show and sale.

A very popular part of the event was the "People's Choice" exhibit. There were several entries in each of the two categories - art or craft with the people attending the show casting their vote for one entry in each category.

In art, first place went to Al Richards for his portrait of Billie Copenhaver; second place to Misty Sarvis for her scratchboard "The Source ''; third place to Ed Doner for his watercolor, "Glacier Park to Cobalt Lake."

In craft first place went to Pam Sikkink for her round decorator basket and second place to Patti Bartlett Dunlap for her quilted wall hanging called "Five Generations of Love."

There were four age divisions for the children to participate in.

In the preschool-kindergarten age group first place went to Blaze Devins for his 5 Dinosaurs Song; second place to Desiree Nemmers for her Flowers Painting; and third place to Kristin Sikkink for her Stuffed Dinosaur.

First through third grade group: first place went to Leslie Hane for her Pencil Chick; second place to Ryan Nemmers for his Pencil truck; and third place to Ryan Nemmers for a Flowers Painting.

Fourth through sixth grade group: first place went to Melinda Cahoon for her Oil "Majestic Pride"; second place to Shawna Nemmers for her Tiger Pencil Chalk; and third place to Renata Marshal for her Glass etching, Butterfly.

The fourth grade was also judged in a separate category, "Paper Mache." The first place winner was Melinda Cahoon for her Pig; second place to Amber Pena for her Horse; and third place to Burma Ryan for her Hereford Cow.

In the high school competition first place went to Owen Conley for his pen and ink Trout; second place to Brandon Rohde for his print "Infinite Diversity of Infinite Combination;" and third to John Reinhardt for his graphite "Ducks."
