Nine Blackhawks to attend State track and field

Nine Seeley-Swan track and field athletes will head to State this weekend in Great Falls after competing in Divisionals in Missoula last weekend.

The women's 4x1 relay team placed first in Divisionals with a time of 52.38 seconds. Coach Mike Haines said this was almost a second faster than their past times, but the team will likely need to cut a second or a second and a half off to be competitive at State.

The relay team was made up of Laicey Auchenbach, Darby Gleason, Kilty Hanson and Lillian Boyd, who also placed in javelin, shot put and long jump, respectively. Boyd will be competing in five events at state including the relay, the 100, 200 and 400 meter dashes and discus.

The Blackhawk men's relay team also qualified for state, placing second at Divisionals with a time of 46.82 seconds. Similar to the women's team, Haines said the men will need to cut a second and a half off this time to be competitive at State.

Tyler Haines, Austin Gonzalez, Zach Best and Cannon Hawkinson make up the relay team. Hawkinson will be competing in the 100 and 200 meter dashes at State as well, and Derrick Brovold in the javelin category after a big personal record of 157.05 feet in Divisionals where he placed second overall.

State track and field in Great Falls begins on Friday and finishes on Saturday. The Blackhawks will bus out on Thursday to practice.
