The Blackfoot Communications Board of Trustees is awarding the Seeley Lake Branch Library $1,000 toward the purchase of a new color copier/printer. The machine will also have faxing capabilities. Thank you to everyone who shared with me about this desired resource for our community. Please note there will likely be an increase in printing fees (currently 10 cents a page) to account for the higher cost of colored ink. The public will be kept informed as to when it is ready for use and any changes in fees.
Now on to other library news. The local library book club meets the first Thursday of each month at 11 a.m. Our next planned gathering will be June 6. This month’s book is Michael Punke’s Revenant. Some of you may have seen the film featuring Leonardo DiCaprio based on this book.
Book synopsis:
A startling novel (based on a true story), the story unfolds the toll of envy and betrayal as well as the powers of obsession and vengeance in the battle of fur trapper Hugh Glass, first for his life and then for justice. It is 1823 when 36-year-old Hugh Glass joins the Rocky Mountain Fur Company in a speculative venture that takes him and 10 other men up the Missouri River into perilous, unexplored territory. Not least among the dangers that await the trapping party is a natural killer, the grizzly bear. Attacked and savagely mauled, Glass is lying unconscious when his fellow trappers find him. Still, the other trappers abandon him. So, Glass sets out with gritty determination across 2,000 miles of uncharted American frontier. Glass indeed becomes a revenant, a man who has returned vengefully from death to balance the scales of justice. (combined from reviews and book cover)
In addition to the grant for new technology and this month’s book club pick, the public library also has new books in fiction and nonfiction, as well as a steady rotating collection of materials (DVDs, books on CD, and books for adults, children and everyone in between).
New this month are a couple of reference resources from Salem Press. The first is for parents entitled “Teens Growing Up — Skills & Strategies.” It includes a wealth of information in categories such as education, families, health, life skills and more. The next resource is for all: “Digital Literacy — Skills & Strategies.” These two books are for in-library use only.
Dates to remember: The Summer Reading Program begins June 12.
“All Under One Roof Roadshow” is at the Seeley Lake Branch Library from 1 until 4 p.m. on June 20.
Join the crew from the Missoula Public Library for a day of activities and fun. A range of hands-on activities will occur exploring reading, crafting, science and technology. Come experience spectrUM’s solar telescope, MCAT’s interactive storytelling circle, the library’s all-ages craft activities, Families First’s take home space activities and the UM Living Lab’s space explorer brain games.”
The library will be closed Monday, May 27 for Memorial Day.
