Variety of talent in Swan Valley show
Every artist was once an amateur, according to Ralph Waldo Emerson. His words of wisdom stretched across the stage of the Swan Valley Elementary School last Friday night, encouraging about two dozen performers who entertained a crowd of local residents and fans.
Seven-year old Casey Parker stole the hearts of everyone in the audience when she stood up on the stage and sang, "Grandpa, Tell Me 'Bout the Good Old Days." With a little coaxing from her friends and family, this rising star carried out a wonderful performance and received sincere applause for her efforts. Casey is the daughter of Larry and Dixie Parker of Swan Valley.
Although the Talent Show is always billed as an "amateur night" many of the performers last week have obviously risen above the "amateur" status. Claudia Kux closed the evening with a beautiful, emotional song called "Winter Sorrow," which she dedicated to several people including her father who died in September, the local couple who recently lost their home in a house fire and to "anyone who is feeling pain right now." The audience was quiet, listening intently to her voice and the soothing music of her guitar.

Cathy Rapp: Featured Quilter
Cathy Rapp's quilts will be on display in the upstairs Gallery at Deer Country Quilts March 1-31. She will be honored at a First Night Reception on March 1 from 4 to 6 p.m. The public is invited to attend.
Cathy started quilting in the late 1980s. Her first quilting experience was a "Quilt til You Wilt" in Modesto, California. She arrived at 6:30 p.m. and left at 3:00 a.m. with a new "addiction" - quilting. Cathy was introduced to machine quilting and rotary cutting that evening which opened the world of quilting to her.
Cathy was one of the founders of the Quilt Makers of the Tamaracks and Alpine Artisans. Cathy and her husband Marvin have made many contributions to our community.
