Seventy-one years ago -- The Coyle Collection -- "A Good Helmville Gang" is the title Eddie Coyle gave this picture in the photo collection he compiled during the years he operated Coyle's Bar (now the Filling Station) in Seeley Lake. Enjoying themselves at Coyle's Bar on an evening in 1952 were: back row, from left, Sammy Geary, Frank Potts, and Harry Gordon. Sitting are Hugh Geary and Jim Geary, father of Sammy and Hugh, and other sons Jack, Bill, Petey, Danny, and Tommy (pictured below in a 1953 photo). For years, the Geary brothers have operated the Geary Ranch in Helmville.

Public meeting Jan. 14 on Pyramid issue with DEQ
There will be a most important public meeting at Seeley Lake Elementary on Wednesday, January 14th at 7: p.m., following an earlier meeting at 6:00 p.m.
Anyone interested in the economic and environmental health of Seeley Lake needs to be in attendance.
At issue is whether or not the Montana Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) places Pyramid Mountain Lumber on the Comprehensive Environmental Cleanup and Responsibility Act (CECRA) priority list. Part of the company's refinancing effort in 2001 included phase I and II environmental reviews of the 95 acre industrial site. In that analysis of the 53 year-old-complex, six areas were identified to undergo a higher level of testing. Five of those six were found to have no contamination.
Pyramid Mountain Lumber Co. hired Douglass, Inc. in 2001 to investigate a former wood-treating area on their property in Seeley Lake. The wood treating facility was a very small system that operated part time for less than five years in the late 1970s. In the ongoing investigation, four groundwater wells have been drilled and repeatedly sampled, numerous soil samples have been collected and analyzed, and the groundwater wells have been monitored for the last two years. Based on the results of this investigation, DEQ has agreed that the groundwater contamination appears to be well within the boundaries of the Pyramid property and does not threaten any public or private drinking water wells.
