Lady Blackhawks look to continue successful dynasty

The Seeley-Swan Lady Blackhawks basketball team hopes to continue its area dominance and win its sixth district title in a row, it just has to do it with the youngest team ever to sport the black and yellow.

The Lady Blackhawks are returning a roster featuring five juniors, six sophomores and four freshmen. The team sports no seniors, but co-head coach David Cahoon said the team will get to focus on the fundamentals more.

"It's been really fun, we get to go back to some fundamentals and we have a long runway now," Cahoon said. "We can put in a lot of time and effort and hopefully see it translate out there, not just this year but next year."

The team has been practicing for the last two weeks in anticipation for the season opener versus Superior High School on Dec. 15. Cahoon said the goal of this year is to continue beating the team ahead of the Lady Blackhawks.

With a younger team, he hopes to slowly build confidence and skills over the winter. It is not just about one or two skills, Cahoon said, but 100 paper-thin lessons for the team to experience. With the experience, the Lady Blackhawks hope to advance and win its third divisional tournament in six years.

The Lady Blackhawks open the season against Superior High School on Dec. 15, followed by Thompson Falls High School on Dec. 16. Both games will be at home.
