The Montana Grizzlies never looked back last Saturday, Nov. 18, beating Montana State University in a 37-7 romp that gave the Griz its first Big Sky Conference Title in 14 years.
Montana started the game on fire with two rushing touchdowns in the first quarter by freshman running back Eli Gillman and senior quarterback Clifton McDowell.
The Cats were hampered by the noise of Washington-Grizzly Stadium. A record-breaking 27,178 people watched the game in person. Hundreds more tailgated right outside. At half, the Griz led 20-0. At the start of the third, MSU got on the board with a 10-yard passing touchdown. That progress was erased two minutes later by a 27-yard passing touchdown by wide receiver Junior Bergen.
In the end, Montana won 37-10 and ended the season with a 10-1 record. The Griz claimed its first Big Sky title since 2009, and is the second seeded team in the Football Championship Subdivision playoff.
