Roland "Ronnie" Hendrix (1940 - 2023)

Roland "Ronnie" Hendrix passed away on Tuesday Aug. 29, 2023 surrounded by his family in Missoula, Montana.

Ronnie was born on Oct. 27, 1940 in Johnston, South Carolina to Willard and Cathlee (Sizemore) Hendrix. He lived with his great aunt and uncle in South Carolina until his teen years when he joined his mother in Maryland. A few years after graduating from high school Ronnie would pursue his true life passion, horse training and ranching, by moving west to Nevada.

While in Nevada, he met the love of his life, Margo Ward, in Kings River Valley, Nevada. The couple was married in Battle Mountain, Nevada on Dec. 30, 1966. As a married man, Ronnie would continue working on ranches in Nevada and Montana, in addition to serving in both states' National Guards throughout the 1960's. In 1972, with daughter Niki and son Luke in tow, Ronnie and Margo settled down in Winnemucca, Nevada where Ronnie would work in the construction, potato and welding industries until his retirement in 2005.

Throughout retirement, Ronnie spent his winters in Yuma, Arizona and his summers in Seeley Lake, in an effort to avoid something he truly disliked...snow! He spent this time socializing with friends and family, boating and golfing weekly with friends Pat Clarke, Dick Irwin, Gerry Quinn, Jim Normark and a plethora of others.

Ron loved sports – just about any athletic event would grab his attention. He provided love and laughter for many friends and family over the years. He had a great sense of humor and loved to tease, sometimes leaving the younger folks wondering if he was teasing or if he really meant it! For many years he had the right joke at the right time.

He was very generous, creating and giving away many iron works of art. Ron's love for his grandchildren was huge and unconditional. He will be missed and memories of his kindness and consideration for others will surely come to mind often.

Ronnie is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Glinder Hendrix and his son Luke. In addition to his wife, Ronnie is survived by his daughter Niki Bronec (Alan) of Missoula, granddaughter Jordan Capp (Paul) of Missoula, grandson Nathan Bronec of Missoula, granddaughter Mikayla Rangel (Nolan) of Boise, Idaho, and grandson Chase Baum and daughter-in-love Kelly Baum of Battle Mountain, Nevada.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in memory of Ronnie Hendrix. A gathering to celebrate the life of Ronnie will be on Oct. 7, 2023 at 3:30 pm location is the VIP Lounge (#9) at the Missoula County Fairgrounds.
