The Seeley-Swan High School football team returned to action last weekend, battling the Ennis Mustangs to a tough 48-14 defeat on Aug. 25.
The Blackhawks entered the year with a younger team, featuring just three seniors and some breakout sophomores.
"We are a young team with a lot of promise," head coach Jacob Haley said in an email.
The Mustangs took control early in the game, scoring 33 unanswered points in the first half of the game. The Mustangs brought 34 players compared to Seeley-Swan's 20 players, and also featured nine seniors.
In the second half, the Blackhawks started to put together some explosive plays, capped off by a 65-yard rushing touchdown from sophomore Kolton Zurmuehlen.
Seth Dunster, who had some big runs in the first half, also hit paydirt when he ran in a 7-yard touchdown, and completed a 2-point conversion the next play. Senior Cannon Hawkinson and sophomore Derrick Brovold also took some snaps behind center during the night.
The Blackhawks will now hit the road to face the Wardens of Powell County High School on Sept. 1. Seeley then takes on Manhattan Christian on Sept. 8, before returning home to face Sheridan on Sept. 15
