DNRC awards grant for Blackfoot watershed projects
Helmville, Mont. – A $62,600 grant was awarded to the North Powell Conservation District on July 18 for continued Blackfoot river watershed habitat restoration and water quality improvement. The grant money was provided by the Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation (DNRC).
The North Powell Conservation District is working with the Blackfoot Challenge, a local watershed group, to implement an aggressive project, which focuses primarily on coordination, management, and planning amongst the landowners, agencies, and interest groups, as well as creating an action plan. Development and implementation of an action plan will integrate habitat restoration, water quality planning, and implementation efforts.

First Youth Leadership Camp a hit in Seeley Lake
The first Youth Leadership Camp hosted by Seeley Lake was a huge success last week. One hundred and twenty students from Hellgate, Sentinel, Big Sky and Seeley-Swan High Schools participated in the events held at Seeley-Swan High School.
“It was great. It was nice being the host school for this,” Caroline Jette said. Jette was instrumental in organizing the event. This is the first camp to encourage student participation from all four Missoula County high schools.
Many Missoula students were surprised to learn that Seeley-Swan High School was part of the Missoula County High School system, Jette explained. “The camp added a new-found respect and relationship among Seeley and Missoula kids,” she said. Many of the 30 teachers and staff members who participated had never been to Seeley-Swan High School either, Jette added.
The main focus of the camp was to help participating students develop ideas to make their high schools “a fun place, a good rewarding experience while they are there,” Jette said.
