Man dies in Blackfoot River

Just before 11:00 a.m. on July 24, multiple agencies, including Missoula County Sheriff’s Office Deputies, were dispatched to the Johnsrud Park area, where it was reported a male, wade fishing in the area, was in distress and had gone under in the Blackfoot River and had not resurfaced. Wade fishing is a style of fishing where anglers stand in the water.

Missoula County Search and Rescue was immediately called out and responded to the scene. Missoula County Search and Rescue members located the male and members of the Missoula County Sheriff’s Office dive team recovered the body. The male was pronounced deceased at the scene.

As you can imagine, this is a very difficult time for the family and friends and our heartfelt condolences go out to them.

Missoula County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank all the responding agencies that assisted during this incident including Missoula County Search and Rescue, Life Flight, Missoula City Fire Department, Missoula Rural Fire Department, Greenough Potomac Volunteer Fire Department, and Missoula Emergency Services.
