Letter from the Editor

One of the most impactful things when I worked for the Pathfinder in 2020 was the sheer amount of public comment that I saw in the newspaper.

Whether thanking a service member, or blasting a public official over Holland Lake Lodge, I know this community has deep-seeded opinions that often do not show up anywhere in print.

That’s why I write to you, reader, to send your opinions in. Since I started two weeks ago, I have seen just one Seeley-based letter to the editor. In the past I recall almost 10 in a single issue. The opinions are important, not just for your community engagement, but as a way to inform others — even me.

While I have lived in Seeley before, and I am in town often, I don’t have the same perspective as someone who has lived here for 30 years. Those people are the knowledge barons, knowing when businesses first opened, when fires smoldered and even some people’s dirty laundry.

Let’s be clear: messages of hate or discrimination will not be tolerated in the Pathfinder, and so far everyone has been respectful with their opinions. I hope to continue that healthy discussion so that both you, reader, and myself can gain a greater understanding of our neighbors.

Further, please feel free to message me with interesting stories or potential breaking news. You are the eyes and ears of this town, and people who simply visit the Pathfinder office have been invaluable.

Going forward, I hope to see a robust opinion section, so large that I can lengthen this paper just for your takes.

In other news, I am slowly getting more and more settled into the day-to-day of the Pathfinder. I hope some longer, more in-depth stories will be hitting newsstands soon. Thank you for supporting local news, and I am happy to be in the driver seat here
