Students help with start-up funds for the "Stage"
Seeley Lake Elementary students viewed the Seeley-Swan Stage firsthand when the van visited the school on Thursday. The students raised money to contribute to the Senior Citizens' Transportation committee for operating and maintaining the van.
Student Council President Michael Biggins and eighth grader Ryan Rammell presented a $50 check to Transportation committee member Paul Miller during lunch at the Seeley Lake Senior Citizens' Center on June 2.
Students raised the money at two school events this fall and winter by offering family portraits for $3.00. Title 1 Teacher Linda Bowers said students took family pictures with a digital camera, downloaded them to a computer and then printed them.
"It was a great way to teach technology and combine it with community service," said Mrs. Bowers.
The Senior Citizens raised funds to purchase the van. The van can seat two wheelchair passengers and 10 non-wheelchair passengers and will be ready for operations in July, after drivers are trained.
Volunteer drivers with a regular driver's license and good driving record are needed. Training for drivers will occur during the week of June 9th.

Students receive Pathfinder awards
Three Seeley-Swan High School students have been honored with Pathfinder's 1988 Journalism Awards. Dustin Gordon, Ron Gossard and Lorena Cahoon each received a new dictionary or thesaurus and a check for $10 from Pathfinder.
Nineteen students submitted more than 40 articles to Pathfinder during the school year 1987-1988. Articles were judged on creativity, spelling, grammar, organization, continuity and logical flow. Creativity was a determining factor in selecting the three winners. Dustin Gordon was recognized for his articles about athletic events at Seeley-Swan High School this year. Ron Gossard received his award for an article about MTI/Rainbow Connection activities(specifically, a drug and alcohol free dance being sponsored by area students), Lorena Cahoon was recognized for her articles about girls volleyball and basketball.
