Four eighth graders graduate from Helmville School

Four eighth grade students finished their Helmville School career on May 30 with encouraging words from the Drummond Junior Varsity Football coach and the book "All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten."

Graduating eighth graders Wyatt Daniels, Michael Goettle, Natalie Graveley and Lucas Spatig will all be attending Drummond High School in the fall, and per tradition they were the centerpieces of a graduation ceremony at the Helmville Community Center.

The graduates shared their childhood histories and favorite times at Helmville School with personally choreographed slide shows which they had created for the occasion.

The slides pieced together the educational careers and athletic exploits of the four as they grew up in the halls of Helmville.

Graveley played basketball with the Drummond High School Lady Trojans for the past few years while Daniels, Goettle and Spatig were star members of The Helmville Mustangs basketball team who were Blackfoot Valley League Champions this season.

As the graduates were athletes, the coach of Drummond's Junior Varsity Football team was invited to speak and share some wisdom. Using examples from his own life, Coach Gary Graybeal shared the need to stay flexible, as well as goal oriented, in his speech.

"You need to be adaptable," Graybeal told the graduates. "Life doesn't always give you what you want and sometimes when it does, it's not quite what you expected. Continue to work hard, and good things will come. I always tell my boys, 'Don't cheat yourself. Work hard in everything you do. Don't be okay with being mediocre'."

The school awarded The Hilarie Geary Award to Graveley, the student which they believed best "exemplified a strive for excellence."

Brooks Phillips, Helmville School's lead teacher, shared some wisdom from the pages of "All I Really Need to Know I learned in Kindergarten" by Robert Fulghum. "Play fair. Don't hit people. Put things back where you found them. Clean up your own mess. Don't take things that aren't yours."
