Update from Swan Valley Community Library

At the Swan Valley Community Council meeting on April 18, and Librarian Jenny Kauffman presented some updates on services available at the Swan Valley Community Library.

The Library which is attached to the Swan Valley Community Hall in Condon is open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday of every week. The shelves are stocked with books, both classic and contemporary, but the library has access to many more books through the inter-library loan system.

“We do have a large collection of nonfiction and fiction books for adults and children and we can always order books from our system since we’re part of the Missoula County Library,” Kauffman said.

Any member of the library can request any book within the state library system and it will be delivered for pick up at their local library by mail with no charge to the reader.

“We can pretty much get you any book that you want,” Kauffman said.

It is a library and does, of course, have many books. But the library in Condon has more than just things to read. The library has made itself a local hub for internet access and has acquired some equipment that members can take home.

“We also have some digital cameras that you can use for a week,” Kauffman said. “If you’re looking to borrow a camera, come try one out, see if it has the features you want and learn how to use it.”

The Swan Valley Community Library has been bringing new services in an effort to be a bigger resource for the local community.

“One of the new services we just added is a notary public, which is free to anybody who needs a service,” Kauffman said. “We also have a book chat that we do every month. We pick a book, sit around drinking coffee, have a snack, and talk about the book.”
