Upcoming workshops to discuss succession planning

Forest landowners and agricultural producers are invited to attend two upcoming workshops on succession planning.

The “Ties to the Land” workshops, sponsored by the Montana Forest Stewardship Foundation, are scheduled separately for May 6 in Helena and May 13 in Kalispell. Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks is co-sponsoring the Kalispell workshop.

Forest landowners, farmers, and ranchers are invited to participate in the workshops. Cost is $50 for the first family member and $10 for each additional family member.

Seating is limited to 25 people per workshop.

The full-day workshops will focus on assisting families with understanding succession planning. Millions of acres of family-owned forest land in the U.S. and thousands of Montana family-owned forestlands will change hands in the coming years.

Some forests and other rural lands may be converted to different uses because owners didn’t take charge of the succession process in time.

The workshop is Helena is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Delta Hotels Helena Colonial, 2301 Colonial Drive. The workshop in Kalispell is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Montana FWP Region 1 office, 490 N. Meridian.
