SOS Levy Fails

A proposed mill levy which would have raised approximately $15,690 for the SOS Hospital District over the next two years failed during local elections last Tuesday. Seeley Lake residents approved the levy by a vote of 98 to 56. Swan Valley and Sunset (Greenough) area voters, however, defeated the levy by a wide margin. Total votes for the entire district (Seeley Lake, Swan Valley and Sunset combined) were 161 for and 172 against the levy.

Joe Anders, New Chairman At Seeley Lake Elementary School

Joe Anders is the new chairman of the Seeley Lake Elementary School Board. Anders was elected by trustees to his new position at a recent reorganizational meeting following school elections. Ken Kopke is the new vice chairman of the board. Kathy Manos was reinstated as school clerk.

Annual Student Drama Week

Junior High students in Mr. Nelson's language arts/social studies classes performed original plays and dramatic monologues before school and community audiences last week. 7th graders Theresa Cahoon, Eric Eichert, Shari Morin, Shawn Helvick and Jimmer Betson received the "Best Play" award. Top individual acting Oscars went to Jason Zebarth, Shari Morin, Lewis Woodworth and Theresa Cahoon. 8th grade Montana History students completed their frontier research units by dramatizing an individual "character." The top three awards went to Kim Musick, Jeremy Aumaugher, and Renn Anders.

Bull Trout Caught in Seeley Lake

A seven-pound bull trout was caught on Seeley Lake in early March by an out of state ice fisherman who mistook it for a lake trout. Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks Game Warden, Bill Koppen, points out that while lake trout and bull trout look similar, the Seeley Lake area does not have lake trout. The fish was confiscated and the fisherman cited. "Remember folks," Koppen admonishes, "No black, put it back."

Pyramid Foresters Qualified As Certified

Four Pyramid Mountain Lumber, Inc. employees have qualified as Certified Foresters through the Society of American Foresters (SAF). "Gordy Sanders, Bruce Timpano, Bob Oldenburg and Doug Wasileski have received Certified Forester status through the Society of American Foresters." Said Roger Johnson, President of Pyramid Mountain Lumber, Inc. "This certification recognizes only those top foresters who meet professional forestry education and experience requirements."
