Elementary School Musical!

On Tuesday March 28, the Seeley-Swan High School auditorium became a musical journey through ancient civilizations when students from the Seeley Lake Elementary school performed a theater production of "Dig It" with original humor woven in.

The play is a musical written by Roger Emerson and John Jacobsen for production by grades 4-8. It follows two archaeologists, and their excavated skeleton friend, as they travel to various ancient civilizations.

The production was led by Janet Morgenstern, music director for both the high school and elementary school. The cast was made up of the entire fifth grade class with additional members of the junior high drama elective class.

Because the drama departments haven't been able to put on live performances since the start of COVID, the older students were invited to participate.

"Drama is important," Morgenstern said. "It gives them positive attention."

Morgenstern worked with the students to produce the play, and let them write their own jokes into the dialogue.

"It was a coordination between a lot of parents, high school kids and teachers," Morgenstern said. "It was really a lot to pull off. But I'm so happy because they are just so hilarious."
