Sexual assault reported at Camp Paxson

A sexual assault reported Thursday morning, Feb. 9, on Boy Scout Road in Seeley Lake was for an incident that allegedly happened more than 12 years ago, the Missoula County Sheriff’s Office stated last week.

The location in the report is an 80-year-old U.S. Forest Service camp located on Seeley Lake, originally used by a number of groups including the Boy Scouts of America and the U.S. Forest Service for their smokejumper training housing, as well as school and church groups, weddings and family reunions, according to the website of the non-profit organization Camp Paxson Preservation Project, which took over management of the site in 2013, two years after the alleged incident in 2011.

The Missoula County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Jeannette Smith said an investigation is underway but that the charges did not involve any local parties. It was not known if the incident involved a minor. No arrests have been made. No other information has been disclosed at this time.
