Moore Files For Re-Election
Janet Moore, Condon democrat, has filed for reelection to the office of state representative for House District 65. Moore is the incumbent in this election, and is now serving her second term as a state legislator. As of Monday, Moore was unopposed on the democratic ticket, but is being challenged on the republican side by Dan Mizner of Seeley Lake.
Seeley Lake Elementary School Trustees Briefed On AIDS
"It is a preventable disease," were the words of encouragement offered last week to the District 34 board of trustees by Ellen Leahy of the county health department. Leahy had been invited to make a presentation on AIDS so that the board would be better prepared to develop an AIDS policy. What are the local statistics on AIDS? To date, the grim numbers are: Missoula County, 16 cases; Montana, 118 cases-with more on the way.
Summer Jobs Available - State Assumes Fire Protection Duties In Swan
The Montana Department of State lands will assume responsibility of approximately 190,000 acres of forest fire protection from the Flathead National Forest on July I, 1988. The department has announced that it will hire a number of summer seasonal employees to fill fire crew and fire prevention positions. Pay grade would vary depending on position, and a person's experience level, but would likely be between $4.91 and $6.45 per hour. Bunkhouse facilities will be available at Condon.
Spelling Bee Winners Advance To Missoula
Seventh grader Kelly Christian will be Seeley Lake Elementary's representative in the Missoula County Spelling Bee February 26 at Sentinel High School. Eighth grader Kimberly Musick is the alternate. Among the other top four contestants in the school spelling bee were eighth grader Renn Anders and sixth grader Rose Manos.

Near Record Turnout for Snow Joke Race
182 entrants in the 24th Snow Joke Half Marathon completed this annual 13.1 mile footrace around Seeley Lake held Saturday, February 22nd. Patrick Murphy was the overall winner in a time of 77 minutes 8 seconds. First woman was Mo Hartmann in 96:16. Both runners are from Missoula. The sponsoring Cheetah Herders Athletic Club also allows dogs accompanied by their owners to enter the event. "Max" Birnbaum of Missoula paced a field of 8 canines in 86:01 and was awarded a soup bone for his efforts.
Fly Tying Class at Swan Eco Center
Swan Ecosystem Center will be sponsoring a Fly Tying Class on March 4th from 6 p.m.-9 p.m.
The class will be taught by Les Rutledge of Fish, Wildlife and Parks. Equipment will be provided, or you may bring your own.
