MISSOULA -- The Seeley Swan High School volleyball players played a grueling six games in two days, winning their way through the loser’s bracket to place second in the District C13 tournament in Missoula Oct. 27 and 28.
The girls won their opener on Thursday but were bumped from the top bracket by Valley Christian in a grinding 5-game shootout. After building a two-game lead, the Lady ‘Hawks lost in five, 14-25, 25-22, 15-25, 23-25 and 10-15.
That set up a heroic but tense run through the bottom bracket on Friday.
The Blackhawks opend by sweeping Victor, 3-0, before getting past Phillipsburg, 3-1. That set up the definitive revenge match against Valley Christian, which SSHS won in another grueling five games: 20-25, 25-23, 22-25, 26-24 and 15-12.
Exhausted, the girls fell to district champ Drummond in three games and travel to the State Class C tournament Nov. 10, 11 and 12 in Bozeman.
After the district tournament, the Blackhawks are 19-7.
