These LEOS are Lions

Seeley Swan High School Sophomore Regan Jones and senior Tru Good volunteered to serve mea at the Seeley Lake Senior Center Hunters Breakfast Oct. 21. Jones and Good are members of the Lion's Club high school branch known as LEOS: Leadership, Experience, Opportunity and Service.

Advisor Mary Stone said six LEOS members helped set up for the breakfast the night before.

"The whole idea is to have them do service," she said. "The kids love that the community supports (their activities)."

Regan, who is also manager for the Blackhawks basketball team, felt fulfilled about her interaction with the seniors.

"I wanted to help out in the community and I have never been to the senior center," she said. "So coming here was something different for me. A different environment."

Besides raising money for the center, the senior center members announced winners of their most recent raffle with the top prize being a rifle.

The next raffle, the grand prize being a mountain bicycle, in ongoing.

The center will host an annual costume party with prizes at 11:30 a.m., Friday Oct. 28.

Among other things, the center hosts the Meals on Wheels program, two bingo games every week, games of dominoes and pinochle.

The center loans medical equipment such for free and provides lunches from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Monday through Friday at a cost of $5 for those 60 and older and $8 for those younger than 60.
