SEELEY LAKE – The Lady Blackhawks won the Mineral County Tournament after a slow start against Lincoln Sept. 24 in Superior. The Seeley-Swan High School Volleyball team played five matches.
Head Coach Janelle Greenwood said the team improved with each game on Saturday. Dani Sexton led the team in defense with 25 digs and six aces on the day.
"Tru Good had an amazing dig on a really good hit by Drummond," Greenwood said. Good had 20 digs on the day.
Kilty Hanson, Rilyn Richardson, Amaiya Dalrymple, Darby Gleason and Aubrey Matthew all came off the bench and played great, Greenwood said. "Overall it was a great day of volleyball where everyone contributed," Greenwood said. "We couldn't have done it without everyone."
Other big contributors were Cora Stone with 15 kills and Kyla Conley with nine, Trista Alexander had five kills and 15 digs. Ava Thornsberry came through with 36 assists on the day.
Scores from the tournament in pool play, SSHS beat Lincoln in two sets 15-13, 15-8, vs Drummond 15-11, 15-13. In bracket play the Lady Blackhawks won over Granite 15-11, 12-15, 15-10, vs Albertson 15-5, 15-4 and vs Mission 15-12, 13-7.
'Hawks edge Victor
The SSHS hitters took on Victor Sept. 22 at home and won in four. The Lady Blackhawks lost the first set 26-28.
"We struggled finding our tempo in the first game," Greenwood said. "We pulled together after that and we were able to get the win in four."
The team went on to win 25-13, 25-18 and 25-11. The Victor team made Seeley Lake work hard for several points.
Thornsberry had 32 assists, Conley 14 kills, Good 14 digs and Madi DeBernardi six aces on the night.
Greenwood rotated in younger players off the bench who played strong during the last game.
