SEELEY LAKE – The Lady Blackhawks added a pair of victories last week defeating the Granite Prospectors on the road Sept. 15 and the Superior Bobcats at home Sept. 17.
After a close first set against the Prospectors, the Lady Blackhawks had a strong second set and cleaned up in the final set: 25-22, 25-17 and 25-7.
Back on their home court, the Lady Blackhawks faced fierce competition from the Bobcats that kept fans on the edge of their seats right up to the final point.
Neither team could build much momentum in the first set but the Lady Blackhawks came out on top 25-21. The Lady Blackhawks pulled off a second hard fought 26-24 victory and looked to send the Bobcats home after three sets.
In similar fashion the teams battled through the third set. As the game neared the end, the Lady Blackhawks found themselves down 22-24. The Bobcats were in position to force the match to a fourth set but the Lady Blackhawks came back scoring three in a row to regain the lead 25-24. It wasn't over yet and the teams traded points back and forth until the Lady Blackhawks came out on top, 28-26 to win the match.
Kyla Conley led the Lady Blackhawks in kills with 7 followed by Cora Stone with 6. Madi DeBernardi and Trista Alexander each had 5 kills. Ava Thornsberry led with 25 assists.
On the defense, Dani Sexton had 17 digs followed by Alexander with 14 and DeBernardi with 12.
This week, the Lady Blackhawks host Victor Sept. 22 with JV starting at 5:30 p.m. On Sept. 24 they head to the Mineral County Tournament with their first game starting at 10 a.m. at Alberton.
