Lady Blackhawks soar in season openers

SEELEY LAKE – Seeley-Swan High School Lady Blackhawks Volleyball team beat Alberton in three matches Aug. 25.

"I was super happy with our playing especially for it being our first match," said Janelle Greenwood, head coach. "We met our team goals and everyone got playing time and contributed well."

Senior Dani Sexton got a couple of saves for the team, Greenwood said. Trista Alexander had a good run serving to give the team a big lead.

Kyla Conley and Cora Stone had four kills and Ava Thornsberry put up 13 assists. Ace leaders were Madi DeBernardi, Sexton and Alexander with six each. Conley had one block for the team. Sexton was the team leader with eight digs

The Lady Blackhawks swept the tournament in Phillipsburg Aug. 27. In the morning, they finished top of Pool A beating Arlee 29-27, Hot Springs 25-12 and Gardiner 25-22. In the afternoon, they stepped into the single elimination bracket with their first game against Darby. After a win (15-10) and loss (7-15), they finished the best of three games with a 15-5 win. They finished the tournament strong taking down Granite in two games and finished off Arlee in two for the Championship.

The Lady Blackhawks play again Sept. 1 at home against Drummond. They travel to Lincoln Sept. 2 for another match. Both games start at 5:30 p.m.
