Shrine Club Backroads Poker Run brings new event to Seeley

SEELEY LAKE – Side-by-sides, UTVs and ATVs took to the Forest Service Roads from Seeley Lake to Ovando Saturday, June 11 for the Western Montana Shrine Club Backroad Poker Run and Live/Silent Auction.Winners received $3,500 in payouts and prizes and the event raised $10,000 from the poker run and auction that will benefit the Shriners Children's Hospital in Spokane, Washington.

"The people of Seeley and their fans know how to enjoy life and have fun and are as generous as I have ever seen," said Organizer Mike Weigel. "That is saying a lot as I'm chairman of donor relations at the [Children's] Hospital."

The event started at the Seeley Lake Chicken Coop and went to Trixi's in Ovando via Cottonwood Lakes Road and the Monture Creek Road. Despite heavy rain and mud, Weigel estimated about 100 people participated. There was a live auction back at the Chicken Coop that evening.

"One hundred percent were smiling, laughing and having fun," Weigel said.

Weigel looks forward to making this an annual event. By popular request, the Chicken Coop, Kurt's Polaris and Weigel are discussing a Summer Sizzler event that will be similar, minus the auction.
