Preliminary election results

As of the final Election Night Report, June 7, the unofficial election results are in. There was a 38.44% statewide voter turnout this election. 

For the Democratic Primary for U.S. Representative, Monica Tranel swept the state, garnering 65% of the vote. Her nearest competitor was Cora Neumann who received only 24% of the vote. 

The Republican U.S. House Representative ran a much tighter race. While Ryan K. Zinke did receive the most votes with the unofficial count of 33,203 votes,  Al “Doc” Olszewski’s was only 180 votes behind. These results will not be official until canvas. 

In Missoula County, there was a 36.89% voter turnout.  

For the Democratic U.S. Representative, Tranel led with 14,224 votes compared to Neumann’s 3,856. This trend was reflected in the Potomac, Seeley and Swan precincts, where Tranel won by a large margin. 

For the Republican U.S. Representative, Ryan K Zinke led with 5,854 votes compared to Al “Doc” Olszewski’s 4,100. Zinke led in Potomac and Seeley precincts, while Olsweski took Swan in a narrow margin of 78-70 votes. 

For the Justice of the Peace Dept. 1, Alex Beal led with 17,148 votes followed by Bill Burt’s 6,670. Daniel Kaneff received 4,077 votes and will not advance to the General Election in November. Beal took Potomac, Seeley and Swan by a narrow margin, with the closest race being won by 28 votes in Swan. 

For the Justice of the Peace Dept. 2, Landee Holloway led with 18,741 votes compared to Susan Reneau’s 9,658. Both will appear on the November ballot.  Holloway won in Potomac, Seeley and Swan with the closest race being 99-90 in the Swan.

The Missoula Aging Service Levy passed with 67% of the votes in favor ( 8,855 for and 1,916 against). Frenchtown and the Swan were the only two precincts that voted against the levy. Frenchtown voted it down with a 50-59 vote and Swan had 10 more votes against than for.

Powell County had a slightly higher turnout than Missoula County with 38.44%.

Powell County followed the rest of the states, choosing Democrat Tranel and Republican Zinke over their opponent face off in the general election. 

Tranel took Powell County with 205 votes, with her nearest competitor Neumann 111 votes behind. Tranel won in Helmville and Ovando by a narrow margin, with the closest race being 8-7 in Ovando. 

Following a similar trend, Zinke won with 653 votes against Olzewski’s 402. Zinke led in both Helmville and Ovando with the closest race being 56-30 in Ovando. 

For the Republican Commissioner of District 2, Ralph Mannix Jr. led with 747 votes compared to Justin Williams 504. Mannix received the most votes in every precinct except Avon Precinct 1 where Williams led by two votes and Helmville Precinct #12 where Williams led with 54 over Mannix’s 27 votes. 

All results are unofficial until canvas. The General Election is Nov. 8.
