Pioneers celebrate graduates, Klein retirement

POTOMAC - Potomac School had 10 eighth graders and 12 kindergartners graduate on the evening of June 8. More than 100 people were in attendance in the Potomac Greenough Community Center (PGCC).

Bryanna Peterson, the kindergarten teacher, shared what her students wrote about their favorite thing about her class. Willa Howard loved the field trips, Tucker Brown loved playing outside and others loved when the caterpillars changed into butterflies, long recesses and Ms. Peterson.

Peterson awarded special certificates to students including 'The Master of Knowledge' which went to Cormac Brewer, and the 'First Class Friend' to Anna Brown.

Teacher Terri Klein was honored for her 30 years of teaching and upcoming retirement. There was a standing ovation throughout the PGCC as she was brought a big bouquet of flowers amongst hugs and smiles.

The eighth grade class presentation was done by Principal John Rouse and included advice for the students such as reading as much as they can. Teacher Damian Gaglia addressed each student, their memories and goals while Klein awarded the diplomas.

Gaglia also spoke of the classes' maturity during the class trip to Florida and a slideshow of their trip was presented.

Four awards were given to eighth graders this year. Kaycee Salter was awarded both The Citizenship award and the Pioneer Award.

The Dayries Service Leadership Award and the Potomac Library Award were new awards this year. Evan Pulfer won the Potomac Library Award gift certificate for reading. Ezra Clausen won the John Dayries Service Leadership Award for showing quiet word and a deed of commitment to helping students and the school. He received a medal.

The eighth-grade students said they are looking ahead to sports and new faces in high school although they will miss the one-on-one which comes in a small school setting.
