Boys take first and Girls second at District Meet

MISSOULA – Eighteen of Seeley-Swan's athletes placed in the top five at the 13C District Meet May 13-14 and will advance to Western C Divisional this week. The Boys won the meet earning 154 points to beat out Drummond with 140. The Girls took second with 137 points behind Drummond with 154.

The top Seeley-Swan Boys included Owen Hoag, Sawyer Shelmerdine, Chase Haines, Walker McDonald, Klayton Kovatch and Connor Matthew.

Hoag won the 100, 200 and 400-meter races. His 200-meter time of 22.34 improved his school record by nearly a third of a second.

Shelmerdine won the 800-meter and took second in the 400 with his season best of 53.67.

Haines set personal records (PR) and took second in both the 110 and 300 Hurdles crossing the line at 15.90 and 41.89.

McDonald won both the Shot Put and Discus with throws of 52 feet 6.25 inches and 162 feet 8 inches. He outthrew his nearest competitors by eight feet in the Shot Put and 18 feet in the Discus.

Kovatch set a new PR in the Long Jump clearing 19 feet 11 inches for first place and won the High Jump clearing 5 feet 6 inches. He also advanced in the Discus with a third place finish.

Matthew threw 133 feet 4.5 inches in the Javelin to take second place and extended his PR by 14 feet.

Other Boys that advanced to the Divisional include Zach Best taking fifth in the 110 and 300 Hurdles, Seth Dunster finishing fifth in the 800-meter and Nic Little Coyote placing third in the 1,600.

Top Seeley-Swan Girls includes Emily Maughan, Sariah Maughan, Mia Saalfeld, Dani Sexton and Kyla Conley.

E. Maughan won the 100, 200 and the Long Jump. Her 100 time of 13.34 shaved her PR by a split second.

S. Maughan found little competition in the 400, 800 and 1,600 crossing the line between 5 and 10 seconds ahead of second place.

Saalfeld threw a PR of 92 feet 4.5 inches to win the Discus.

Sexton set a new PR of 111 feet 10.5 inches to take second in the Javelin and placed fifth in the 3,200.

Conley took second in the High Jump and also qualified with a fourth in the 400.

Other Girls to advance included Allison Kilpatrick who finished fourth in the 100 Hurdles and fifth in the 300 Hurdles, Amaiya Dalrymple took third in the Shot Put, Rowan McClure placed fourth in the Javelin and Rilyn Richardson came in fourth in the Triple Jump.

In typical Seeley-Swan fashion, both the Boys and Girls swept the 4x100 and 4x400-meter relays.

This week Seeley-Swan heads to the Western C Divisional track meet at Frenchtown May 20 and 21.
