MISSOULA – Seeley-Swan's Owen Hoag and Walker McDonald won the "Outstanding Male Track Athlete" and "Outstanding Male Field Athlete" awards at the Kim L. Haines Memorial track meet May 7. The pair's performance helped propel the Seeley-Swan Boys to first place in the team points ahead of Broadwater and Loyola.
The Seeley-Swan Girls took second at the KLH behind Broadwater and ahead of Drummond.
Hoag dominated the short distances on the track winning the 100, 200 and 400-meter events. He cut his personal record in the 100 down by 0.34 seconds crossing the line at 11.39 seconds. He shaved his 200-meter school record down to 22.63 seconds. Hoag also ran on the Boys short and long relays that placed third and first respectively.
McDonald won both the Shot Put and Discus throwing 52 feet 8 inches and 153 feet 4.5 inches respectively. McDonald threw three feet farther than second place in the shot put and was nearly 20 feet farther than his nearest competition in the Discus.
Other top Boys included Sawyer Shelmerdine, Chase Haines and Klayton Kovatch. Shelmerdine won the 800 with a personal record time of 2:04.53 while Chase Haines set a personal record of 16.14 and took third in both the 110-meter Hurdles and 300-meter Hurdles. Kovatch earned points in the Discus, High Jump and Long Jump taking third, fourth and fifth respectively.
On the track for the Girls, Sariah Maughan won the 400 and took second in the 1,600-meter. Emily Maughan took fifth in the 100 and third in the 200-meter. Her times of 13.39 and 27.24 seconds were both personal records. The Girls 4x100-meter relay took second place and they won the 4x400-meter relay.
In the field events, E. Maughan won the Long Jump clearing 17 feet 10.5 inches furthering her school record by more than 4 inches. Kyla Conley placed fourth in the High Jump.
This week Seeley-Swan heads to the District track meet in Missoula May 13 and 14.
