Seeley-Swan shines in the snow

MISSOULA - The Missoula County Public School Invitational fell victim to Montana's spring weather April 16. The meet was canceled after just five events on the track but the cold and snow didn't keep Seeley-Swan's athletes from shining.

In the first event on the track, Hunter Coyle ran his season's fastest 3200 with a time of 14:18.21.

Chase Haines shaved nearly a half second off his personal record (PR) in the 110-meter hurdles, crossing the line in fourth place with a time of 16.43. Zach Best set a PR in the event, as did Alison Kilpatrick in the 100-meter hurdles.

Owen Hoag and Aiden Posthumus set PRs in the 100-meter with times of 11.73 and 12.83s. Aubrey Mathew also set PRs in both the 100 and 200. Emily Maughan took sixth in the 200 with a time of 28.05.

Sariah Maughan ran her season's best 800-meter as she went head-to-head with Helena's Odessa Zentz who has the state's fastest 800 across all classes this season. Sariah's time of 2:12.32 is the third fastest in the state this season.

Sawyer Shelmerdine finished strong in the 800 as well, though the stats available appeared inaccurate placing him back in the pack. Nic Little Coyote also set a PR in the 800.

In the field events, Walker McDonald threw 156 feet 5 inches for first place in the Discus and took second in the Shot Put with a throw of 48 feet 8.5 inches.

This week Seeley-Swan's athletes head to the Sapphire Twilight Invitational April 21 in Corvallis before hosting the Seeley-Swan Invitational in Missoula April 23.
