Hunting eggs in the snow

SWAN VALLEY – The Condon Community Easter Egg Hunt was a bit different this year with nearly six inches of snow on the ground April 17. Typically eggs for the hunt held at the Condon Community Ball Field are easily visible for the hunters. However, this year everyone had to dig through a bit of white to find the colored eggs.

Approximately 6,000 eggs were put out for those who braved the winter-like conditions to participate. The egg hunt opened with prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance, something that Event Organizer Edward Klassen said can mean so much to the children and the adults.

All the eggs were filled with candy and lucky hunters also won prizes including toys, goodies, baskets and prize money for the golden tickets.

Klassen said he and his wife Heidi continue to host the Community Egg Hunt each year for God, country and the children.

"I love the time we get with family and friends during spring. It often helps to bring together families our children, grandchildren and in some cases great grandchildren," Klassen wrote in an email. "Along with the new revival of our faith, Easter is a time to remember Christ and those that have given so much for our salvation and freedom. It may seem like a daunting task to some. However, these events help create in the hearts and mind the gift that is community. I hope it will be a memory that will inspire more to take the opportunity to serve when they can and love when they can."
