POLSON - Seeley-Swan’s Boys and Girls track teams both took second place at the 50th Annual Dave Tripp Memorial Track Meet in Polson April 8.
The Boys earned 83 team points putting them ahead of Drummond with 69 points and Loyola with 63. Class B Jefferson took the top spot with 175. Seeley-Swan’s Girls earned 72 points behind Drummond with 97 and ahead of Superior and Anaconda with 65 and 62 respectively.
Seeley-Swan’s Boys burned up the track. Owen Hoag won the 200-meter in 23.02 seconds and won the 400-meter in 51.07, more than five seconds ahead of the nearest competitor. Sawyer Shelmerdine won the 800-meter in 2:14.35 while Chase Haines took fifth and third in the 110 and 300-meter hurdles.
The Boys took third place in short relay with their best time this season, 45.27 seconds. They took second in the long relay with a time of 3:40.62 and the JV team placed sixth with a time of 4:08.08.
In field events, Walker McDonald took first in the Shot Put and Discus with throws of 51 feet 2 inches and 161 feet 6 inches respectively. Both throws were his farthest of the season as he closes in on his school records from last year.
Klayton Kovatch pushed his personal record in Discus out to 143 feet 11 inches and earned third place.
For the Girls, Sariah Maughan dominated the 400 and 800-meter with her season record times of 1:00.17 and 2:24.77. Amaiya Dalrymple took third in the 1600-meter with a time of 6:48.29. Emily Maughan came in fifth in the 100-meter with a time of 13.85 while Alison Kilpatrick set a personal record of 20.44 and took fifth in the 100-meter Hurdles.
The Girls short relay took second in 52.97 seconds and won the long relay with a time of 4:29.95. Both times were their fastest of the season.
Off the track, E. Maughan won the Long Jump with a jump of 16 feet 4.5 inches. Dani Sexton took fifth in the Javelin throwing 95 feet 2 inches. And Kyla Conley took fifth in the High Jump clearing 4 feet 10 inches.
This week, Seeley-Swan will face stiff competition at the Missoula County Public Schools Invite. The April 16 meet features athletes from several AA and A class schools along with a half dozen B and C class schools.
