Legislative Update - House District 92
Going into the last Legislative session, the Republican majority delivered across the board. We implemented the first phase of our tax cuts to put money back in the pockets of workers and situate Montana's economy to better compete with our neighbors.
This includes HB191 which was the first property tax relief for seniors living on a fixed income in 20 years (This was a constituent bill from Potomac!). This also included HB663 which uses revenue from adult-use marijuana taxes to fund our schools and further reduce property taxes.
We protected our Constitutional rights passing legislation to increase 1st, 2nd and 4th Amendment protections and by stopping both the mask mandates and the vaccine mandates.
We passed the most conservative budget in modern Montana history, funding our critical investments and delivering our essential services without raising any taxes.
We delivered another comprehensive infrastructure package for the State of Montana, improving roads, bridges, wastewater systems, drinking water systems and irrigation systems across the state.
And Montana's economy has responded. We have historically low unemployment, more opportunity, more higher paying jobs, more options. All of this would be great......except while your State Government was busy actually doing its job, the Federal Government was kind enough to give us a heavy dose of eight percent inflation and the highest gas prices in the history of the country.
As if that wasn't enough to have to deal with, our Democratic friends in Missoula City and County government have never met a tax increase they didn't love and have spent the last 20 years purposefully limiting the supply of housing in the county leaving us 2,400 units short of meeting demand. This was before we had all the traffic moving into the state coming out of the lockdowns and mandates.
Put all of this together and sure, the booming economy helps, the higher pay helps, additional job opportunities help but these cost of living increases are still robbing Montanans of thousands of dollars.
That is why I am running for re-election to continue serving as your Representative in House District 92.
This next session, in addition to continuing the work we started last session, we are going to have to focus on ways we can ease the pain from all these cost of living increases to carry us through to the other side of these absurd gas prices and inflation numbers.
It's been an honor representing the people of House District 92 over these last six years. I look forward to another competitive campaign season and I am asking for your vote to continue representing you in the Montana House of Representatives.
